Sitek Guitar Electronics Updates the Caffeine Booster - Premier Guitar

Gdynia, Poland (September 30, 2020) -- Sitek Guitar Electronics brings a vast update to one of their first creations - Caffeine Booster. This pedal livens up your guitar tone like a good espresso shot. Known for its rich, sparkly boost and bright crunch this pedal gets some brand new features. While the original character was preserved, Andy and Hania added more gain and additional controls for further tone-shaping. The update was also highlighted by the new colour of the enclosure.

With Caffeine Booster V2 you get two more switching options: a D/B Mode Switch - a selection between drive and boost modes and a Tone Switch, which modifies the bottom-end of the signal to compensate for different kind of guitar pickups and suit player’s personal preference. Caffeine was also designed to play well with guitar volume and tone controls. Just like in the previous version, new Caffeine Booster is equipped with DualMode Footswitch allowing momentary or latching operation.

New Caffeine Booster offers following features:

  • 4 simple controls: Level, Gain, Drive/Boost Selector and a 3-way Tone Switch
  • 100% discrete analog signal path designed with a combination of BJT and JFET transistors
  • DualMode Footswitch for momentary or latching operation
  • Powder coated enclosure to withstand tough stage conditions
  • Reverse polarity protection
  • True Bypass
  • Power supply 9V DC or 9V battery
  • Compact footprint

Bennett County Booster II celebrates 190th anniversary in conjunction with National Newspaper Week, October 4-10 - Bennett County Booster

By Deb HendricksonPaper and ink formed a partnership way before the 17th Century. However, the first printed periodical, replacing handwritten newssheets, began in the 17th Century in Europe. The first newspaper printed in the United States was printed in Boston, Mass., in the late 17th Century. The Bennett County Booster II, Martin’s local, hometown newspaper, will be celebrating its 109th anniversary this October. There has been a lot of controversy expressed recently whether or not newspapers are obsolete and the industry itself has expressed some reservations. For the most part, however, the general consensus seems to be that newspapers continue to be a vital compilation of communication, information and a permanent source for preserving historical records. The inception of the Booster began in the form of a vision realized by Mr. Ray W. Hitchcock in 1911. Hitchcock owned the Cody Cow Boy newspaper in Cody, Neb., but when news began to spread that LaCreek had the potential to become a newly-settled township, his thoughts turned toward starting another newspaper in LaCreek. Unable to run two papers simultaneously, he convinced his sister, Ollie Hitchcock, to relocate to LaCreek and run the newspaper there. A small two-room building was constructed and the first issue of the Bennett County Booster was printed at LaCreek on October 4, 1911.In March of 1912, a newspaper called the Martin Messenger was established in Martin and published out of a small box car just to the west of the present-day site of Martin Drug. Publishers were C. W. Allen and William Healy. At a special election held in April 1912, Martin was named as the temporary county seat. Regardless of the election results, Ray Hitchcock was determined to continue publishing the Booster. Unfortunately for Ray, Ollie made the decision to leave the area, so he persuaded his sister, Mamie to relocate to LaCreek. The Booster building was moved to Mamie’s homestead where she continued to publish the Booster. In 1916, the Booster was sold to Judge W. E. Hooper who merged with the Messenger about a year later.A third newspaper called The Bennett County Review was started in March of 1928, but was only published for a little over a year when it was sold to the Messenger. In 1930, Blaine Whipple, editor of the Martin Messenger and the County Review began the Bennett County News.A fire on February 8, 1933, destroyed the building which housed the office and plant of the Bennett County News, but a miniature edition of the News was printed regardless of the loss. From the latter part of the ‘30s and into the early part of the ‘50s the Booster was owned and published by a number of different owners and editors.* * * * *Wendell and Mary Long began publishing the Bennett County Booster II on July 27, 1950. They retained ownership of the paper for the next 44-years. The Longs began publishing the Booster II out of a Quonset building with a brick front, to the east of the courthouse, which continues to be the site of the paper today. As a teenager, Mr. Long began working at the local newspaper in Martin. “Wendell always wanted to work in the newspaper business,” Mary said. “After WWII, when he was discharged from the service, he went to Brookings, S.D. to further his studies in journalism.” While owning the Booster II, Wendell served as President of the South Dakota Newspaper Association and later served on the board for the National Newspaper Association in S.D., N.D., Iowa and Minn.Although Mary didn’t have any previous experience in the newspaper business, she worked in various capacities alongside her husband while they owned the Booster II. Her primary job responsibilities, although not limited to these in particular, were bookkeeping, selling advertising and operating machinery. “We employed several family members while owning the paper. My sister, Helen Leeper, continued to work at the Booster for a few more years after we sold,” Mary stated.Mary is of the firm belief that for small communities a weekly newspaper is a necessity. She does not believe newspapers have outgrown their time but feels that they provide vital information, as well as being a source of advertising for local residents and businesses. The Booster II building underwent extensive remodeling in 1961 to accommodate for new growth and new equipment. The expansion included removal of the Quonset and constructing a block building with a tin roof.* * * * *Shirley Hahn was originally hired by Wendell and Mary Long to work at the Booster as a typist. Compugraphic phototypesetting machines had recently made their way into the printing industry making hot type technology obsolete. Shirley stated that she had a few challenges learning to type on the Compugraphic but managed to get things figured out. She was also responsible for doing the bookkeeping, proofreading all the papers, compiling subscription lists, and measuring and charging the legals and advertising. During her 44-year career at the Booster, Shirley was employed by three different owners. “I liked everything about working at the Booster, all the work!” Shirley exclaimed.* * * * *Tim Huether purchased the Bennett County Booster II on May 1, 2001 and published the paper until October 1, 2018. Tim said he decided to purchase the newspaper after working for corporations from 1984 to 2001. “Becoming your own boss can be challenging, but you only have yourself to answer to on the decisions you make,” Tim said.Prior to coming to the Booster, Tim worked at daily newspapers in Aberdeen, S.D., and Klamath Falls, Ore. While in Ore., Tim was offered a management position at one of their newspapers in Lander, Wyo. He then was a general manager and publisher in Nev., N.D., and Sturgis.Tim attended Black Hills State University for two years and while there, wrote for the college newspaper. He then transferred to South Dakota State University where he focused on the marketing side of journalism and received his B.A. in Journalism Advertising.Tim stated that, “Weekly newspapers are the heartbeat of every community. They pull together the little things, the big things and a lot of things in between to keep the community informed and updated.” He believes there will always be a need for weekly newspapers to give the right balance to what is happening, keep government on their toes and help hold public figures accountable. Above all, Tim believes that reporting the news, and reporting it accurately, honestly and without influence, is vital to a community because it is the most reliable tool for recording a community’s history.* * * * *“I like to go into the Booster because I love the smell of newspaper production,” Jeff Siscoe stated. “It brings back many good memories.”Jeff’s experience in the newspaper business started in southern Indiana when he was 16 years old. He worked exclusively in the industry for 18 years. After relocating to South Dakota, Jeff worked part-time at the Booster for several years as a press operator. “It was great fun working for Tim Huether and alongside Harvey Lee Hahn,” Jeff said. Jeff feels that the most important thing about reporting the news is maintaining fairness in reporting, customer service, and a balanced approach in using local, pertinent information.Jeff stated that he likes the atmosphere and working environment in newspaper work. He feels that meeting deadlines takes a lot of teamwork, but he always looks forward to getting his weekly newspaper.* * * * *Present-day Booster II owners, Bob and Mandy Scherer, purchased the paper from Tim Huether in October of 2018. Mandy began working at the Booster for Dale and Mary Lewis in December 1999 and when Tim took ownership in 2001, she was asked to stay on as front office receptionist. Along with her receptionist duties, she typed the legal submissions for the paper but was soon given the responsibility of keeping the books. Mandy obtained her B.A. in Business Administration with an Accounting emphasis from Black Hills State in Spearfish.Mandy’s husband and co-owner, Bob Scherer works as a press operator at the Booster. Bob stated that the work is really different from anything he has ever done and sometimes can be a bit of a challenge, but he enjoys working with machinery. Bob and Mandy have three children, all of whom have helped out at the Booster on numerous occasions. They also have four grandchildren.Mandy’s 19-year commitment of working at the Booster afforded the Scherer’s the first option to purchase the paper when Huether became interested in selling. “One of the reasons I decided to buy the paper was out of concern that if someone else bought it, I may be out of a job,” Mandy stated.According to Mandy, the most important things about reporting the news is maintaining accuracy and the ability to state the facts correctly. She feels that in a small town a weekly newspaper is vital and appreciated. The thing she likes best about her job is having the flexibility to do a variety of things. No one day poses the exact same thing as the day before. Bob and Mandy also own and publish The Sheridan County Journal Star in Gordon, Neb., the Fall River County Herald Star in Hot Springs, S.D., the Todd County Tribune in Mission, S.D., and the Mellette County News in White River, S.D. Mandy stated that all of these papers are within a 125-mile radius of each other, have a lot in common and support one another. Owning five newspapers, along with the responsibility of keeping them all functioning, it is not surprising that Mandy finds the least favorite thing about her job as being able to find and retain capable, dependable employees.* * * * *Press Foreman, Harvey Lee Hahn, had no prior experience of working in the newspaper industry prior to being employed at the Booster but he has worked part-time at the paper for the past 12 years. He credits his previous co-worker, Jeff Siscoe, for teaching him how to run the Web press.Harvey was working at an appliance store when he became acquainted with Tim Huether through the association of their two sons. At that time, Tim had purchased some additional pieces of the Web press and needed to add onto the Booster building to accommodate the press. Harvey was instrumental in helping with the construction. “I guess I just sort of worked my way into a job,” Harvey stated. He went on to say he enjoys his job, but with running any type of machinery, some days can be a bit challenging.* * * * *Although Taylor Risse was born and raised in Martin, she stated, “I never set foot into the building until I applied for the Administrative Assistant position five years ago.” Taylor wears many hats at the Booster but her basic job duties currently involve advertising, commercial printing and production. One of Taylor’s favorite responsibilities is covering sports events which include rodeo, volleyball, baseball, football, cross country, basketball, wrestling, and track.Taylor said she loves the work and the laid-back atmosphere at the Booster. She also enjoys the fact that there is such a variety of things to do every day.* * * * *Deb Hendrickson, Reporter, has worked at the Booster for a mere six months.“Times have changed, but we haven’t. Our top priority is to cover the news that will someday be a record of the past.”**Reprinted with permission by Tim Huether from the Special Edition of the Bennett County Booster II July, 2011 The Link Lonk

SpaceX, Space Force to Reuse Falcon 9 Booster for Future GPS III Launches; Gwynne Shotwell Quoted

Gwynne Shotwell President and COO SpaceX

The U.S. Space Force has signed a contract modification that allows SpaceX to recover and reuse the first-stage booster of the Falcon 9 rocket for future missions under the National Security Space Launch program.

The contract modification with the service branch’s Space and Missile Systems Center Launch Enterprise enables SpaceX to use the recovered Falcon 9 boosters to launch the fifth GPS III satellite, which is slated for liftoff in 2021, the Air Force said Friday.

“SpaceX is proud to leverage Falcon 9’s flight-proven benefits and capabilities for national security space launch missions,” said Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX and a three-time Wash100 awardee. “We appreciate the effort that the U.S. Space Force invested into the evaluation and are pleased that they see the benefits of the technology.”

Walt Lauderdale, Falcon systems and operations division chief at SMC, said SMC expects the upcoming GPS III missions to generate approximately $52.7M in savings through the contract modification, which also covers the launch of the GPS III-SV06 satellite.

SpaceX will recover the booster that will be used to launch the fourth GPS III satellite, GPS III-SV04, on Sept. 29, Tuesday.

A molecule that can mimic the function of zaxinone, a natural growth-promoting plant metabolite, has been designed and fabricated by an international team led by KAUST and the University of Tokyo. Their successful mimic may have wide-reaching applications in plant biology and agriculture, including the promotion of plant growth and limiting the infestation of witchweed.

"We identified zaxinone in a previous study and found that it both stimulates the growth of rice plants and appears to reduce infestation by the root parasite Striga (witchweed)," says Jian You Wang, Ph.D. student under the supervision of Salim Al-Babili. "It is tempting to jump in and say we can harvest zaxinone from plants, study its and use it to boost , but it is not that simple."

Living organisms produce growth regulating metabolites, such as zaxinone, at very low concentrations, and the molecules themselves are often short-lived and unstable. The team realized that to make full use of their discovery, they would need to design a synthetic molecule that can mimic zaxinone's function, rather than using the metabolite itself.

"We first identified the parts of zaxinone that are crucial for its activity and the other parts that can be replaced or modified," says Wang. "These results helped our team to design a series of easy-to-synthesize zaxinone mimics called MiZax."

The team trialed MiZax by adding them to soil and measuring their ability to improve root growth and limitStrigainfestation in rice . Two of the mimics, MiZax3 and MiZax5, proved particularly effective, with MiZax3 performing even better than zaxinone itself.

"We were excited to see the excellent activity and stability of MiZax3, even when it was used at very ," says Wang. "It is important to note that we still do not know precisely how zaxinone itself works. MiZax3 will help us investigate the mechanisms behind zaxinone's activity and how it changes plant hormone patterns and metabolism."

Al-Babili says: "We will also perform controlled field and safety tests to evaluate MiZax activity on cereals and horticultural crops in greenhouse and research farms in the Kingdom. MiZax will help us improve our understanding of the development, growth and biotic interactions of cereals, particularly rice."

Al-Babili is also going to integrate MiZax into a wider project he is leading, which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, on combating Strigain sub-Saharan Africa.

School briefs: Distance learning continuing, boosters fundraiser, voter registration - Sonoma West

Distance learning to continue through Oct. 23

In a letter dated Sept. 25, Windsor Unified School District (WUSD) Superintendent Jeremy Decker informed families that the district would continue on distance learning through the end of October. The previous deadline for next steps was Sept. 25, so the district announced its new plans.

“At this time, my report to you is that the district will continue in distance learning through at least Oct. 23, 2020, but most likely longer,” Decker said in the letter. “There are many factors for this, and the majority are summed up with Sonoma County currently still being in the ‘purple’ tier. If a county resides in the purple tier, by definition, it means that COVID-19 is considered ‘widespread’ throughout the county.

“Many of you might be hearing about school districts in other counties close by opening schools in some form,” he continued. “Those counties are operating very differently from us and are not easily comparable as they are in the red or orange tiers. This means that the coronavirus is not as widespread in their county as it is in Sonoma County. As Sonoma County is still in the purple tier, the Windsor Unified School District is not allowed to bring students back for in-person instruction without a waiver being issued from the Sonoma County Public Health Officer.”

Decker goes on to say the WUSD would not be eligible for a waiver due to its size. He added once the county moves into a lower tier, it must remain there for two weeks, and then two weeks after that schools would be able to reopen.

The letter goes to list the various barriers that Sonoma County is facing for returning to in-person learning of any kind. According to Decker, these include:

Staff and student safety: District administration and teachers are currently working together to establish protocols that will ensure the safety of both students and staff, as well as those family members at home who are coming into direct contact with our students and staff. This has been an ongoing endeavor, but as things have changed with COVID-19 the district has had to re-work its safety plans.

Asymptomatic students: There is increasing evidence that many students who have COVID-19 will not show any symptoms. As such, it will be extremely difficult to ensure that all students attending in person classes are COVID-19 negative. According to Decker, University of California at San Francisco has created a calculator that shows the probability of an asymptomatic student being present in school based on the specific infection rate of the county. For districts in the purple tier, the risk in a group of 100 that at least 1 child will have COVID-19 is 57.5 %.

Contact tracing: As of Sept. 11, the school district is now responsible for conducting all contact tracing instead of Sonoma County Public Health. This means that the district is now required to oversee the contact tracing for over 5,000 people. Up until Sept. 11, this was not the responsibility of the district. According to Decker, they are currently getting staff members trained to assess the feasibility of conducting our own contact tracing.

Staff testing: As of Sept. 11, the school district is now also responsible to manage all aspects of staff testing for COVID-19. This means that they are now responsible for finding the testing facilities, paying for testing and monitoring the results. Up until Sept. 11, this was not the responsibility of the district. State law requires that 100% of staff needs to be tested every two months. The district is currently assessing the feasibility of managing staff testing with no assistance from Sonoma County Public Health.

Liability coverage: The district’s insurance provider specifically excludes communicable disease. Therefore, there is no coverage for any claims-related costs resulting from the spread of the COVID-19. This means that lawsuits can be brought forward against the school district for COVID-19-related issues and the legal fees for the district to potentially defend itself would have to come directly from the general fund.

“The district is actively working to overcome these barriers, but many of them are proving very difficult. Due to Sonoma County continuing in the purple tier, and many of the aforementioned barriers to returning still not being solved, Windsor Unified will be remaining in distance learning and it is highly unlikely that our students will be returning for in-person instruction prior to winter break,” the letter concludes. “Regardless, we are committed to exploring all options, and using the most up to date data, before making that final determination.”

Decker finishes the letter by stating he’s aware families would prefer greater clarity, but the number of barriers to overcome makes that nearly impossible.

Boosters fundraiser at Pizzaleah

SpaceX Gets US Military Approval to Launch Reused Falcon Booster - haveeruonline

SpaceX Gets U.S. Military Approval to Launch Reused Falcon Booster

The U.S. military contract with SpaceX has been modified for future launches aboard the reused Falcon 9 booster, saving tens of millions of dollars in the U.S.

A series of GPS III satellites, built by Lockheed Martin, traditionally originated from a new consumable booster operated by the US Space Force’s Center for Space and Missile Systems. The first two GPS III spacecraft were launched with expendable Falcon 9 and United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rockets.

The consumable SpaceX Falcon 9 B1054 booster brings the US Air Force GPS III SV01 satellite into orbit on December 23, 2018, among its first and only missions. (SpaceX)

Previous contract modifications were made to allow Falcon 9 boosters starting GPS III missions to attempt to land. In June, a third GPS III vehicle was launched from Falcon 9 at the Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base in Florida. This is the first time a booster carrying a GPS III vehicle has been recovered.

“We are proud of the partnership with SpaceX that has allowed us to successfully negotiate a contract amendment for the upcoming GPS III mission that will save taxpayers $52.7 million while maintaining our unprecedented record of success,” said Dr. Walt Lauderdale, Space and Missile Systems Center Falcon Systems and the Operations Director said in a statement provided by the US Space Force’s Center for Space and Missile Systems.

SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell said, “We are grateful for the efforts the US Space Force has invested in the evaluation, and we are excited to see the benefits of the technology. Our extensive experience with reuse has allowed SpaceX to continuously upgrade vehicles and save valuable taxes on these launches.”

New modifications to the GPS III launch service contract will not only restore the Falcon 9 booster, but will also allow firing from the booster you previously flown. However, this modification applies only to future releases of GPS III SV05 and SV06 satellites.

Payload pairing using the GPS III SV03 encapsulated inside will be combined with the SpaceX Falcon 9 in June 2020. (SpaceX)

Plans to launch a series of GPS III satellites on the reused Falcon 9s were originally scheduled to begin in phase 2 of the launch service contract in 2021. The existing contract with the U.S. space force is concluded with the launch of the GPS III SV06 satellite. 2021. A contract for Phase 2 of the National Security Space Launch Program for the remaining four GPS III satellites has not yet been awarded and will be bid by SpaceX and ULA.

oncoming Currently scheduled to launch GPS III SV04 satellite on Tuesday, September 29 It uses the new Falcon 9 booster (B1062) from the SLC-40. The new Falcon 9 conducted a healthy static fire test of nine Merlin 1D engines early on the morning of Friday, September 25th. That evening, the encapsulated payload was captured by a Twitter user. goalkeeper While moving from a nearby processing facility to Cape Canaveral Air Force Base to pair up with the Falcon 9 booster.

If everything goes nominal between now and the scheduled launch date, the GPS III SV04 mission will be launched for a period extending to 9:55-10:10 PM EDT on Tuesday 29 September (055-0210 UTC on September 30). is. The 45th weather station predicts that the weather will be generally favorable at the time of launch with a 70% chance of acceptable conditions. If you need 24-hour recycling, the weather is slightly improved by 80%.

SPower donation advances water project in Spotsylvania - Fredericksburg.com

PHOTO: solar panels (copy)

SPower, which is building a solar power facility in Spotsylvania, recently gave the county $3.5 million.

Spotsylvania County is starting a water system improvement project ahead of schedule because of a $3.5-million donation.

The Board of Supervisors approved a budget adjustment to account for the additional funds at Tuesday’s meeting.

The donation came from sPower, the Utah-based company building a massive solar facility in western Spotsylvania. The company offered to pay for a portion of the water system upgrade while it was seeking rezoning approval for the solar project, which is under construction.

The water system upgrade covers what the county describes as the 531 Water Pressure Zone. The solar facility and several neighborhoods—including Fawn Lake, Winewood and Spring Creek—are in the zone, according to county spokeswoman Michelle McGinnis.

Before the solar project came into the picture, the county planned to replace the 50-year-old, 12-inch water main and a booster station that carries water in the zone. The project had an estimated cost of $7 million and was in the county’s five- to 10-year capital improvement plan.

The project’s aim is to replace aging infrastructure “to ensure that growth in the zone can be supplied with adequate fire flow and water pressure,” McGinnis said.

The project will include replacement of more than three miles of the water main with a 16-inch line and reconstruction of the booster station. The plan also calls for adding a water storage tank and booster station.

McGinnis said the work will focus on the water main and booster station rebuild. Work on the water main will start in October while the booster station work remains in the design phase. The water tank and other booster station will be constructed later, in accordance with development in the zone.

McGinnis said sPower’s donation not only helped speed up the project, but also saved the county “an estimated $1.5 million in interest associated with borrowing the equivalent value.”

The company is in the process of building a 500-megawatt solar facility powered by 1.8 million solar panels on portions of a more than 6,300-acre parcel. The panels will supply electricity that’s already been contracted for use by Apple, Microsoft and the University of Richmond.

SpaceX's GPS contract modified to allow reuse of Falcon 9 boosters - SpaceNews

Gwynne Shotwell: "We are pleased that they see the benefits of the technology.”

WASHINGTON — A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket for the first time next year will launch a military GPS satellite with a previously flown main booster, the U.S. Space Force announced Sept. 25.

The company reached an agreement earlier this month with the Space and Missile Systems Center so SpaceX can launch two GPS satellites next year using previously flown boosters. SMC said this will save the government more than $52 million in launch costs.

Although SpaceX routinely recovers and reuses rocket hardware in its commercial and NASA launches, the U.S. military has only recently started to allow SpaceX to recover boosters in GPS missions. The company on June 30 launched the third vehicle of the GPS 3 constellation with a brand-new Falcon 9 booster and recovered it.

The fourth GPS 3 vehicle scheduled to launch Sept. 29 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, will fly on a new Falcon 9 that SpaceX will attempt to recover. For the launches of the fifth and sixth GPS vehicles next year, SpaceX will use previously flown boosters.

“I am thrilled to welcome SpaceX’s innovative reuse into the National Security Space Launch program,” Lt. Gen. John Thompson, commander of the Space and Missile Systems Center, said in a statement.

During a call with reporters Sept. 25, Walt Lauderdale, SMC’s Falcon Systems and Operations Division chief, said the contract modifications for the upcoming GPS 3 missions will save the government $52.7 million

Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s president and chief operating officer, said in a statement: “We appreciate the effort that the U.S. Space Force invested into the evaluation and are pleased that they see the benefits of the technology.”

SpaceX’s existing contract to launch GPS 3 satellites ends after vehicle 6.  Lockheed Martin is producing four more satellites (7 through 10) but the launches have not been awarded yet. Lauderdale said those missions will be awarded under the Phase 2 of the National Security Space Launch program. United Launch Alliance and SpaceX will compete head to head for all Phase 2 missions.

SMC had planned to start flying payloads on previously flown Falcon 9s in Phase 2 but decided to get an early start with the current GPS contract.

“That will set us up for our partnership with SpaceX for Phase 2 over the next year,” said Lauderdale.

To allow reused boosters and get the cost savings, SMC had delay the 5th GPS 3 launch from January to July 2021 to allow time for design validation and “make sure we understand how SpaceX refurbishes previously flown hardware,” Lauderdale said. “This gets us started before Phase 2. We’re getting going now.”
