One of Wisconsin’s top health experts is reiterating the importance of getting the initial COVID-19 vaccine, along with the second booster shot.
“The first [shot] gives you about 50% protection,” said Medical College of Wisconsin President Dr. John Raymond on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News. “But you really need the second one to get that maximum protection.”
Dr. Raymond says the state has been aggressive about making sure they secure enough doses to administer the second round of shots for those in need.
“The state also has a tracing and notification system where they’re going to let you know that the vaccine is ready and that you should be taking it,” he said. “Hopefully there will be some follow-up if people don’t show up for the second vaccination.”
Dr. Raymond was joined by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce Tim Sheehy during the Milwaukee Health and Economy Briefing on WTMJ.
