Forest Park Band Booster - The Herald

The Forest Park Band Booster held their monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 4. President Brett Eckert welcomed boosters. A motion was made to approve the minutes from the last meeting by Donna Weyer and second by Erin Sprinkle. Bret Eckert gave the treasurer's report.

Bret Eckert reported that the sales of the discount cards are down about $800 from last year but there are 12 more people who need to turn in their cards/money. A suggestion was made that the outgoing seniors would make a list of people who they sell discount cards for the incoming seventh-graders, similar to how the raffle is done.

Karen Brown reported that they sold 163 gallons of soup for the soup sale and the people that kettles were borrowed from each got a free gallon of soup.

The January raffle winners were announced: $300 Betty Schaefer, $100 Daryl and Cathay Auffart, Susan DeWitte, Linda Pund, Connie Schnell, Dennis and Rita Lovell.

Donna Weyer reported the next can and paper drive will be Saturday, Jan. 9, at 9 a.m. Donna explained the route taken in Ferdinand and that everyone is welcome to drop their cans papers off at the band building.

John Brosmer reported on since the front nose cone replacement was damaged, we had a choice of how to proceed. He was going to see if there was another place to purchase/install a front nose cone.

Bret Eckert reported with the local COVID-19 restrictions the Dine and Dance that is planned for Feb. 13 will be postponed.

Eric Obermeyer reported that due to the COVID-19 restrictions there will be no pep band this year. However if the restrictions change mid-season the pep band will play if they are allowed. The Christmas concert was postponed to after Christmas break, with the school doing a hybrid class schedule the concert was canceled. The jazz band has been practicing and all jazz contests will be virtual this year and they will be receiving a live jazz clinic workshop from Purdue. The concert band contest which is usually held at Floyd Central will probably be held virtually this year. Band camp dates have been set: Meet & Greet, May 11, 13, 18 and 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.; Rookie Camp (for all incoming seventh-graders, eighth-graders and new marchers); July 5-9 from 9a.m. to noon; Mini-Band Camp, July 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Band Camp, July 26-30 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The band will be marching in the Strassenfest parade this year.

Andy Hassfurther made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Erica Eckert seconded the motion.
