Lockheed Awarded $59M Contract Modification Under DARPA Hypersonic Booster Program

Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin’s missiles and fire control business has secured a $58.9M contract modification for a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-led effort to develop a ground-launched hypersonic booster system that would carry and deliver various weapon payloads.

Under the modification, the company will perform risk reduction testing for the Operational Fires program to attain critical design maturity at system-level, the Department of Defense said Friday.

Work in Grand Prairie, Texas; Huntsville, Alabama; and Elkton, Maryland, is expected to be completed in January 2022.

DARPA will initially obligate $18.5M from research and development funds allocated for fiscal years 2020 and 2021 to support the development of the integrated OpFires system.

The agency awarded Lockheed a $31.9M contract in January 2020 to work on the OpFires program's third phase.
