BANGOR TWP., MI - A ticket vending service owes the booster club for Bangor Township’s John Glenn High School about $3,000, which is most of the club’s annual funding, a board member said.
The JG Bobcat Backers announced the dispute on its Facebook page Monday, Jan. 4, stating it hasn’t been able to collect funds from Brown Paper Tickets, the service it used for its annual golf outing fundraiser.
The state of Washington sued Brown Paper Tickets in late September alleging it has failed to pay event organizers as well as refund ticket purchases for events canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office received 583 complaints alleging roughly 80,000 people have been impacted across the country, and the company owed roughly $6.76 million to event organizers and ticket buyers, the lawsuit states.
This is the third year the John Glenn booster club has used Brown Paper Tickets for its golf outing, said Tracy Gilles Koch, a board member and chair for the golf outing. This year’s event was held on Saturday, Sept. 12, and the club usually receives a check from the service about seven to 10 business days after, but didn’t this year, she said. They still haven’t gotten paid, Gilles Koch said.
The golf outing is the club’s biggest fundraiser and, with reduced concession sales with smaller crowds at this year’s football games, it hurts the club’s ability to support the student body, Gilles Koch said.
“Without that money, that’s less money we can give back to the kids,” Gilles Koch said.
The club is looking into hiring an attorney, but the funding for that will be its own issue, Gilles Koch said. They also are considering more fundraisers. Those interested can send donations to John Glenn High School, located at 3201 Kiesel Road in Bangor Township, in care of the booster club.
A spokesperson for Brown Paper Tickets could not be immediately reached for comment.
