Acting Pennsylvania Health Secretary Alison Beam said Pfizer is looking at ways to cover the COVID-19 variants, during a town hall meeting hosted by Sen. Camera Bartolotta on Thursday. "There have been contemplations for Pfizer adjusting their booster shot or even creating a third shot to allow folks to have a shot that actually addresses the variant," said Beam.Beam addressed several questions from callers, including the delay in second doses of the Moderna vaccine. "The issue was that the order for second doses with Moderna far exceeded our allocation," said Beam. "The rationale for why that happened is that providers had inadvertently used previous second doses as first doses, so they were pushing out volume, and we know this is perfect a storm. It's really indicative of the moment of the crisis that we're currently in, which is supply is extremely low and static, not increasing at a magnitude that is measurable, yet we're finding ourselves with the demand ever-increasing."Beam said they are working to make sure that everyone receives their second dose. "As long as you're getting that within 42 days of your first shot there is no struggle there," said Beam. "That's still a complete vaccination."The town hall, where Beam and others answered questions, lasted one hour.
